The International Association of Special Investigation Units (IASIU) is looking for potential speakers for the IASIU 2020 Seminar & Expo, September 13-16 in Dallas, Texas. Your session ideas will help us create a dynamic program full of strong educational content. Possible topics include the following:

 

Auto Issues: Bio medical, High tech auto theft, Vehicle ignition systems, Vehicle technology/telematics

Property Issues: Catastrophe investigation, Fire investigation, Fraud involving water/mold mitigation claims

Investigation Technologies: Cell phone forensics & analytics, Rideshare, Social media investigations

Workers' Compensation Fraud: Undocumented employees, Shell companies, Workers' compensation investigations

Other Topics: International Fraud, New fraud trends, Major Case Investigations, Interviewing, Medical Fraud, or any other topics that do not fit into one of the above listed categories

Crashing Autos Rimkus Style (C.A.R.S.)

Location: Insurance Auto Auctions, 2500 Adesa Drive, Sanford, FL 32773

We are co-hosting a C.A.R.S. Continuing Education Seminar for commercial and personal lines adjusters, SIU professionals, subrogation adjusters and attorneys. This interactive workshop will feature presentations on Vehicle Accident Reconstruction, EDR Backbox downloads, Commercial Braking Systems,  Human Biomechanics, and Human Factors.  Three hours of FL CE/CLE credits will be offered.

 

This LIVE seminar will feature five different workshops and live crash events.

On October 4th, 2019 the South Florida IASIU Chapter teamed up with Rimkus Consulting Group and the Miami-Dade Fire Department for a Fraud Awareness Symposium at the Miami-Dade Fire Headquarters in Doral, Florida. There were over 150 attendees and our presenters offered a total of 5 Continuation Education Hours. Thanks to our sponsors we were able to offer breakfast, snacks, lunch and refreshments during this all-day event.           ‎

 

We were fortunate to have the Miami-Dade Fire Dept. and Miami-Dade Police Dept. Color Guards present the Colors during the Opening Ceremony and Gigi Perez, from Farmers Insurance to sing our National Anthem.

 

Followed by Edward Lopez, SF-IASIU Chapter President who kicked off the event with opening remarks and handed out several awards and plaques to several guests and recognition of true pioneers in the battle of Insurance Fraud ie. Director Simon Blank and Major Rafael Delgado from DIFS. Captain Doug Keller, Captain Ricardo Stephens and Chief Lebron Wesley with the Miami-Dade Fire Dept. were recognized for their support to SFL-IASIU. Tom McConnel with Rimkus Consulting Group was also recognized. Last, but not least our own Board of Director member Wendy Sassman from National General was recognized and presented with a trophy in appreciation and dedication to the success of our South Florida Chapter.

 

Our successful training event consisted of several topics covering all lines of coverages within the Insurance Industry including Game of Drones: Advances in Technology presented by: Ricardo M. Luces, Partner, with Roig Lawyers.

 

A Live Burn Demonstration of Lithium-Ion Batteries and a Goft Cart to determine the Fire Origin and Cause Analysis presented by: Thomas Young, IAAI-CFI, CFEI, CFII VP, Fire Division and Joe Nowikowski, P.E., CFEI, Electrical Division Manager, Western Region, Rimkus Consulting Group, Inc.

 

As well as Forensics of Automotive Theft and Fire on various forcible entry procedures, types of steering columns and ignition lock assemblies with the latest security systems presented by: Jonathan Costa, CFL, CFEI, CVFI, North Eastern Technical Services.
